Martin Broadhurst delivering AI training to a team

AI Training · Gemini & Google Workspace

Gemini & Google Workspace training

If your business runs on Workspace, Gemini is already in the room. I train teams to use it properly — in Gmail, Docs and Sheets, and beyond into Gems, NotebookLM and automation.

In plain terms: you are already paying for Gemini inside Workspace. This is the day your team starts using it deliberately rather than ignoring the sparkle icon.

Curriculum

Eight modules, built on a competency spine

A full day covers all eight. A half-day executive briefing takes modules 1, 5 and 8 — delegation, NotebookLM and governance.

My sessions are built on a four-competency spine rather than a walk through a product's feature list — because prompting is only about a quarter of the skill, and feature tours do not survive contact with a Monday morning.

  1. Delegation Knowing which work to hand over, and which to keep.
  2. Description Asking for it in a way that gets the right thing back.
  3. Discernment Judging what comes back, including when it is confidently wrong.
  4. Diligence Using it responsibly — sources, disclosure, data and accountability.

Those four competencies will be familiar if you have read the open AI Fluency framework published by Anthropic with Prof. Rick Dakan and Prof. Joseph Feller — I reference it because it is good, public research and it matches what I see in the room. The curriculum, exercises and materials on the day are my own, and the spine is deliberately vendor-neutral: I teach the CIM's Level 6 AI module, and what changes between my four platform days is the tooling underneath, not the teaching.

  1. Delegation — Gemini is already in the room

If you run Workspace, Gemini is in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Meet whether anyone asked for it or not. What is switched on, what it can see, and which of your work is worth handing to it.

  2. Description — Gmail and Docs

Drafting and replying at speed without sounding like a robot, summarising long threads, and rewriting to a house style that survives a client reading it.

  3. Description — Slides and Meet

Building a deck from a document, generating imagery that is not embarrassing, and using Meet notes and action capture so nobody loses an hour writing them up.

  4. Discernment — Sheets and data

Formula help, cleaning messy exports, building a summary from raw rows — and knowing when Gemini has quietly guessed rather than calculated.

  5. Discernment — NotebookLM and grounded answers

The most underused thing Google ships. Grounding an assistant in your own document set so answers cite your sources. Genuinely strong for policy, research and bid libraries, and usually the surprise of the day.

  6. Description, packaged — Gems

Building a Gem for a job your team repeats: bid qualification, tone-of-voice checks, onboarding questions. Shared properly, so it becomes a team asset rather than one person’s trick.

  7. Delegating bigger units — automation across Workspace

Where Gemini meets Apps Script and your other systems, and which repetitive Workspace jobs are worth automating rather than merely speeding up.

  8. Diligence — admin, data and governance

What Workspace editions include, how your data is handled, admin controls worth setting before a wide rollout, disclosure norms, and an AI-use policy people will follow.

The day itself

How a training day runs

A typical on-site workshop day. It flexes around your team, but this is the shape.

  • 09:30 What Gemini already has access to in your Workspace, and what good use looks like.
  • 10:15 Gmail and Docs, hands-on with everyone’s own real work.
  • 11:15 Sheets clinic — bring your messiest export.
  • 12:30 Lunch.
  • 13:15 Slides, Meet, and building your first shared Gem.
  • 14:15 NotebookLM on your own document set — usually the surprise of the day.
  • 15:15 Automation opportunities and the governance conversation.
  • 15:45 Three committed use cases each and a 30-day plan. Close at 16:00.

Questions

The things people ask before booking

We are a Google Workspace business. Is Gemini enough, or do we need something else?

For most Workspace-native teams Gemini is the right first move — it is already there, already permissioned, and adoption friction is low. Teams doing heavy long-document reasoning or agentic work often add Claude alongside it. I have no reseller relationship with any vendor, so I will tell you if one tool is genuinely enough.

Do you deliver on-site?

Yes — on-site anywhere in the UK, travel included in the quoted price for mainland Britain. Remote works well for executive briefings; hands-on workshop days are materially better in the room.

Is our data used to train Google’s models?

On paid Workspace editions, your content is not used to train the models and stays within your existing Workspace protections and admin controls. As with every platform, the practical risk is people using personal accounts for work material — which is a policy problem, covered in module 8.

What is NotebookLM and why do you rate it?

It grounds an assistant in a document set you provide, so answers come from your sources with citations rather than from the open internet. For policy libraries, bid material, research and onboarding documentation it is the single most useful thing in the Google stack, and almost nobody is using it.

How many people can attend?

A hands-on workshop day works best at 8–14 people. Executive briefings work at any size. Larger rollouts usually run as one leadership briefing plus repeated department workshops.

What do we get afterwards?

The Gems and prompt library built on the day, three committed use cases per person, and a 30-day plan. Embedded support afterwards is optional and is where most lasting change happens.

Can we use apprenticeship levy or public funding for this?

No — I am not a levy provider or a registered training body, and I would rather say so plainly than send you round the houses. If funded training is the priority, an apprenticeship route through a registered provider is a genuinely good option and will cost you less. What I do is a different purchase: one senior specialist, on site, changing how your team works within a day or two, invoiced as a normal consultancy engagement. People come to me when they need the capability this quarter rather than next year.
